The cases have been linked to travel to the African country Cameroon. The first case was linked to a person with a travel history to Cameroon, western Africa, said researchers in a paper published on medRxiv. The new variant was detected in early December in a traveler who returned to France from Cameroon, the hospital IHU Mediterrannee in Marseille announced.
